Preparing to Launch the Next Gen of Aerospace Techs

Greg Cecil poses in front of his own photo at the Space Shuttle Atlantis exhibit at the Kennedy Space Center

GREGORY N. CECIL, M.A.S., STOPS FOR A MOMENT IN FRONT OF HIS OWN PHOTO, DISPLAYED IN THE SPACE SHUTTLE ATLANTIS EXHIBIT AT KENNEDY SPACE CENTER.

At BOLD TALK Business Radio, we designate the first Tuesday of every month to Space Talk. This week’s Space Talk Tuesday segment  goes live at 1:06 PM, as we welcome Gregory N. Cecil, M.A.S., author and former Space Shuttle Aerocomposite Technician, to our interview format. CEO of Aerostem Consulting, Greg is the only Florida State Certified Educator and Nationally Certified Aerospace Technician in the nation.

You might wonder why a Business Talk Show dedicates so much time to Space Talk. Consider this: Space is big business! Industry trends show a robust satellite launch market and our national space program’s imminent return to human spaceflight. We are committed to keeping listeners informed about space project initiatives and progress, as well as the link between space exploration, industry and business results.

During our interview, you’ll hear facts that underscore the need for training a labor force—particularly aerospace technicians—to support growing aerospace endeavors. Did you know that by 2022, projections predict there will be FIVE Human Space Flight programs, both government and commercial, launching from Kennedy Space Center? Cool beans! especially for those of us living on Florida’s beautiful Space Coast.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual salary of an aerospace technician was $62,680 in 2013;  In April of 2015, SpaceTEC®, the National Science Foundation’s National Resource Center—which promotes and educates candidates for technical employment—launched a nationwide outreach program called Schools-to-Space®. The program is designed to provide secondary school STEM educators the tools to teach space, with an emphasis on the role of a Nationally Certified Aerospace Technician®. We believe this effort will lead to growth and advances in the aerospace and aviation industry. And that’s good news for job seekers, the Space Coast regional economy, and the U.S. economy, as well.

Tune in Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at 1:06 PM, for a peek behind the scenes at issues involved with preparing the next generation of aerospace technicians, and other cool news about the aerospace industry. You can listen live from anywhere at www.1060wmel.com by clicking the LISTEN LIVE button at the top menu bar. If you miss the live broadcast, visit the Bold Talk Business Radio Archive for on-demand listening at your convenience. We’re here for you!

Let’s talk!
